Professional Work
I'm currently Chief AI Officer at VidCruiter, a Canadian human resources technology company that builds video interviewing and recruitment software. Most of my work is hands-on: researching regulation, tools, and industry practices, writing and reviewing code, planning and managing engineering projects, and working with our team to bring AI-driven features into production. I've worked as in software for over twenty years, and the growth of artificial intelligence has brought my academic and professional work together in interesting ways.
A lot of my role involves taking a close look at products and services that use, or claim to use, AI. I break them down to understand how they work, the assumptions they make, the data they use, and their empirical grounding, and where they are likely to be reliable or fall short.
My work also involves tracking the mix of local, national, and international regulations and the public conversations that shape them. I try to understand not just current rules, but the ethical concerns and social expectations behind them, so we can anticipate what will matter to users, cliernts, partners and regulators.
Working in this space has lead me to deepen my knowledge of the I/O psychology and make connections within IOP community both academic and practicing. I attend SIOP and other industry conferences and events, and keep up with industry trends and best practices. This experience also helps me connect with computer science and engineering colleagues in academic collaborations, especially when working with students.
